Micro Anywhere Wordpress Plugin

Alarm ClockMicro Anywhere is a plugin for Wordpress that allows you to add microformated data to any post or page in your blog. To readers, this looks like normal, easy to understand information about a person, company, or event, but to search engine spiders, bots, and other programs, microformatted data is much more powerful. Microformats allow programs to understand data and do extra things with it. This could be adding an "add to calendar" button next to your event, or letting your visitors easily add your company to their address book so that they can contact you later. However you use them, microformats can contribute to getting information about who you are and what you're doing to the world.

(Please note: this plugin is in currently in beta, so it may have some undocumented bugs. If you find any, please send them to

Installation Instructions:

  1. Download the Micro Anywhere Plugin. (Note: This plugin has only been tested on Wordpress 2.5 and up).
  2. Unzip the zip file, and upload the microAnywhere folder to your blog's wp-includes/plugins directory.
  3. Log in to your Blog's admin area, and click go to the plugins page and click the activate link for microAnywhere.
  4. The plugin is now installed. Write a new post or edit an old and notice the two new icons in the post editor. These icons allow you to ad events and contact information to your posts and pages.

Using the plugin:

1. To use the plugin, open a new post and look for these two new icons in the post editor:and contact.

2. Clicking the first icon will open a dialog box alowing you to enter information for an upcoming event. Fill out details such as the event name, description, location, and start and end times, and then click "Insert" to add the event to your page. The event information will be inserted at the current cursor position on the page.

3. Clicking the second icon allows you to embed contact information into a page. This could be as simple as a business name, URL and e-mail, or much more elaborate, including an address, several phone numbers, IM handles, etc. This dialog box has three tabs accessed using the links along the top of the box. When you've input all your information, simply click "Insert" to insert the contact information into your blog post.

Known Issues:

The plugin does not seem to work properly in Safari on the Mac, the outer Div (which defines the event or contact) is removed. This means that events created in Safari will not be recognized by microformat tools. This could be a limit of tinyMCE in Safari.

Changes:

Version 0.2:

  • Fixed a bug that caused the dialog to read dates incorrectly when editing an existing event.

Version 0.1:

  • Initial Release

Bugs:
